If you convert a YouTube video to MP3, there are two primary ways to find it: through the browser itself and within the Files app. Let’s explore each in turn.

When you complete converting a YouTube video to MP3 on your iPad, you have two main places to look for the finished file:

Through Safari

Using the Files app

The former requires navigating directly through your iPad’s web browser, while the latter involves finding a completed file within the File Manager app. Both methods can be used with any YouTube downloader that uses the iPad’s default browser. The exact location of the converted MP3 depends on the app you use to do the conversion.

Finding a Converted MP3 in the Files App

If you’re using an authorized YouTube-to-MP3 downloader (like the Apple-certified apps listed here), then your iPad should save your files into its iCloud Drive. That means the easiest way to find your new MP3 is by looking within the Downloads folder inside iCloud Drive, as shown in Figure A below. If you don’t know how to locate that folder, follow this guide: Finding and Opening Your iCloud Drive on iPadOS 15 or Later.

As you’ll see from Figure A above, I’m showing both navigation routes that Apple documents for finding completed files. While they aren’t identical, they’re both valid. The first one shows how to find the Downloads folder inside the general Files section. The second one shows you where to look within iCloud Drive. To follow the first route, open Files, tap Browse, then tap Downloads in the sidebar. For the second, go to Files > Browse > iCloud Drive > Downloads. Apple documents both as places to check, but neither guarantees that your MP3 was saved there.

Safari also offers quick access to files you’ve downloaded onto your device.

These steps don’t establish a way to download an MP3 directly from the YouTube page. Once you’ve downloaded an authorized MP3 through Safari, tap the Downloads button next to the search field, then tap Downloads to find your file.

How to Find a Completed YouTube MP3 File in Safari

Safari stores information about recent downloads within its own Downloads section. However, unlike the previous examples, it’s possible that your MP3 file isn’t visible within the Files app. This is because the file might still be downloading and hasn’t yet reached its destination.

To ensure that a YouTube video has been successfully downloaded to your iPad, simply tap the arrow pointing downward next to the search field at the top right corner of Safari. This will display a list of all your recent downloads. Tap Downloads to see your downloaded files.

If you’re unsure if your file has already been transferred, just try opening it. If it works, then it’s safe to say that the transfer has completed. Otherwise, return to Safari and wait for the file to download completely.
